East Indian Food at Delhi Darbar

Want to try East Indian Food at its best? Well, Delhi Darbar, Calgary is the place to go. I've had dinner there a couple of times and was pretty impressed the other day by their Lunch Buffet which comprised of plenty of non-veg dishes, delicious veg entrees, salads, naan, rice and savory East Indian desserts. However, I was surprised to notice that the dining room was almost empty. Does no one besides me like East Indian food? Perhaps, it was the cold behaviour of the owner.

Let me describe what had happened. The Buffet at Delhi Darbar closes at 2.30 and we were there at 2.10. The owner clearly told us that he is in a hurry to leave and was about to close down so we better eat as quickly as possible. His comment did throw us off but good food compensated for his cold reception. My husband loved their gulabjamuns and announced that they were the best in town.

Some of my favourite dishes at Delhi Darbar include: Malai Kofta, Lamb Curry, Matar Paneer and Chicken Tikka Masala. Do order fresh naan and tandoori roti as they make your dinner really authentic. However, don't spend your money on appetizers as they are not worth it (especially Delhi Chaat because it is basically just green pepper, tomato and onion salad.)

Earlier Delhi Darbar was located on Glenmore Trail (at the corner of Glenmore and Ogden) but now they've moved to 16th Avenue (122 16th avenue NE, Calgary AB T2E 1J5 to be precise) They also offer take out and delivery menus. To book your table today, call: 403-230-3088.
